The Authentic Aloha Shirt

The origins of the "Aloha Shirt" dates back to the early `30s when Ellery J. Chun began selling shirts bearing the original art work of his sister Ethel Chun Lum in his small King-Smith Clothiers shop in Honolulu, Hawai'i. These vividly colored shirts quickly became his most popular item both for his local customers and visitors alike.

Another innovator in the Aloha Shirt craze was George Brangier (at left) whose company, Branfleet, later became Kahala Sportswear.

Quality for the Discriminating Gentleman

Newt at the Royal continues this island tradition with our exclusive patterns adapted from popular designs of the 1930s and 1950s. Each Aloha shirt is carefully cut and sewn in our own workshop, here in Hawai'i and made with the finest of 100 percent long-staple cotton. Buttons of traditional coconut wood or sophisticated mother-of-pearl. The pockets are matched, the 12 stitches-to-the-inch seams are double stitched for durability, the linings are sewn in, and fully functional vents are for added comfort and fit.
